Business as usual for Britannia Coventry as city prepares for Tier 3

It’s business as usual for nine Coventry mechanics, who have worked non-stop to keep the city moving since the first lockdown – and are vowing to do the same once the area moves into Tier 3 restrictions.

Business at Britannia Tyres in Abbots Road has been a challenge since COVID-19 changed the world, but the team of technicians - led by Anthony Lees and Jeff Fretwell – are refusing to be beaten and continue to work six days a week to ensure people can continue getting from A to B safely.

A number of healthcare workers have called in on the Britannia depot for automotive help over the past eight months, while taxi drivers have also received discounts in a show of goodwill to the community.

Anthony, who has worked for Britannia Tyres in the city for 15 years, said that while times were going to be tough for the city, his team would remain on standby to assist anyone in need of any motoring support.

He also issued a rallying call for everyone to stay strong during Tier 3 restrictions, with the belief that good times are just around the corner.

He said: “It has been a struggle at times, but we’re still here and business is recovering to better levels again. Initially, I think a lot of people thought we’d closed down over lockdown as we weren’t classed as an essential service, but we have stayed open and we’ve been pleased to offer assistance to care workers and other professionals who needed to get to work.

“We have never known a time like this, but we’ve worked extremely hard to keep the forecourt open and we’ve been proactive with some offers and incentives for motorists to benefit from.”

Some initiatives include free winter vehicle health checks, free tyre and battery checks, along with an Amazon gift voucher promotion when Bridgestone all-season products are purchased.

Anthony added: “We’re all from the area and we love Coventry, so it means a lot to work here and to provide a service that people can trust and value.

“We have found that the roads have been getting gradually busier again, despite the latest lockdown. Tier 3 will present more challenges, but we’ll remain open six days a week to keep everyone moving, should they need us.”

Britannia Coventry is open from 8am to 5.30pm weekdays and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.
