Britannia keeping calm and carrying on

All five of our Britannia Tyres depots have declared that its business as usual during lockdown and are offering free vehicle and tyre checks to vehicles for the foreseeable future.

Our centres in Derby, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Bristol and Coventry represent an essential service and have been open for motorists ever since restrictions were placed throughout the UK in response to the Coronavirus.

But with some people still not aware that garages are permitted to remain open for the duration of lockdown, John Tear Marketing Manager moved to clarified the lockdown situation and reassured people that they were continuing to stay open for the good of the community.

He said: “Government guidance states that garages are classified as an essential service and are therefore allowed to remain open to carry out essential repairs or services.

“So we will remain open and are here to help the public. The advice means that should your car need urgent attention from a mechanic, then we are there to carry out the work.

“Doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics and social workers are all working tirelessly and while anything we offer in return will never be enough, we are still here for them – and all essential workers – to keep them on the road.”

Free vehicle and tyre checks were being offered across the board to all motorists and confirmed that a number of front-line workers had taken their vehicles in to work, to ensure they are safe when travelling from ‘A’ to ‘B’.

The Government has also automatically extended the MOT test by six months, as long as a vehicle’s MOT expired on or after March 30, but Mr Tear is still encouraging motorists to consider taking it after fielding a number of questions about the subject.

He added: “We’re getting an increasing number of questions from motorists about the MOT test and when the best time is to take it. Quite simply, our answer is as soon as it is due, in our opinion.

“While the Government has granted vehicle owners a six-month MOT exemption in the battle against coronavirus, ‘vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition’. The MOT test remains the most effective way of ensuring this. We anticipate demand to surge once this six-month period ends and availability to be a potential issue. Moreover, failure rates may eventually rise, not to mention costs.

Britannia Tyres offers a full range of automotive services and stocks the latest premium Bridgestone tyres and is backed by the world’s largest tyre manufacturer.

Britannia’s advice to motorists is to check availability and the most suitable fitting times before coming into store, in order to minimise waiting times. All staff have been briefed and are fully aware of the role they can play to help prevent the spread of germs including thorough hand washing and, of course, self-isolation if required.

Mr Tear concluded: “Across the Britannia family, we’ve upped our daily cleaning routines to reduce the risk of passing on infection. We are also wiping down the main areas of contact of every vehicle we come into contact with.

MOT is available from our Derby & Nuneaton stores.
